The people we truly love never really leave our hearts and our worlds even after their mortal body does. Many of us do come across signs that reassure us of their presence and make us believe that we are not alone, after all.
A Texas college student, Cole Shinsky, is convinced that her late mother is still finding ways to let him know that he is not alone. He lost his mom 9 years ago but there is one thing that never left his mind. “She mentioned she’d be a yellow butterfly one day,” Shinsky wrote on Twitter.
A sports-lover, Shinsky is a left-handed pitcher who has faced a number of struggles recently, from shoulder problems to potentially switching schools, reports The Dodo. Therefore, he wanted to hear a few words of comfort that would give him the courage and motivation to hang in there and face the challenges.
And what could be better than getting reassurance from one’s mom? Much to his surprise, he got a pleasant sign from the universe when he was suddenly visited by a yellow butterfly on Mother’s Day.
“I was fishing off the dock at my aunt’s house and she started walking down to me with her hands cupped together,” Shinsky told The Dodo. “She said, ‘Guess who came to visit?’” with tears in her eyes.
At first, Shinsky didn’t understand what his aunt meant or why she had tears in her eyes. His aunt opened her hands and there, on her palm, was a small yellow butterfly. “The butterfly seemed perfectly content being held,” Shinsky said. “My aunt gently handed her to me.”
This is incredible… Mother passed away 9 years ago and she mentioned she’d be a yellow butterfly one day. For 9 years I have been mezmorized every time I see one but I have never been close enough to touch one. Today… this happened! Happy Mother’s Day Mama 💛

Shinsky was so emotional that he could not let the butterfly just fly away. So he brought the pretty creature in. “When I finally stopped moving, she worked her way up my arm and sat on my left shoulder for a few minutes before I walked outside again,” Shinsky said.
This instance overwhelmed Shinsky and he felt a rush of emotions run through him because the butterfly gently crawled up and perched on his left shoulder. It was nothing short of a miracle for him that the butterfly came to him when he wanted it the most.
“This is incredible,” Shinsky wrote on Twitter. “For nine years I have been mesmerized every time I see one but I have never been close enough to touch one.”
More often than not, butterflies are considered a sign from a guardian angel that comes to support you in specific times when you need them the most. “I think she specifically came to visit because I am currently in the middle of looking for a different school and I’ve been having a rough time at college,” Shinsky said. “She was just letting me know that she is still here.”
After they walked back out, the butterfly stayed with him for a few more moments then flew away. While this experience was momentary, Shinsky has a plan to make this moment last forever. He plans to get a tattoo of two yellow butterflies looking over his left shoulder.
