Ryan Gosling Says "I Think Like A Girl", Thanks To The Close Relationship He Shares With His Mother And Sister

One of the many times that the world gets to see Ryan Gosling beaming with joy is when he has his mother by his side. While most stars would hit the red carpet with glamorous dates, Ryan Gosling has proudly walked hand-in-hand with his loving mother and has no qualms about the mama’s boy image he has.

The actor’s mother, Donna has had a huge influence on him throughout his life. And as Ryan Gosling grew up watching his single mother, he’s picked so much from her and it’s added up to making him the gentleman he is today.

After Donna divorced Ryan Gosling’s father, she was left alone to raise him and his older sister, Mandi. Being in the company of his mother and sister as a child has shaped the way he looks at the world.

“I grew up with two incredible women, my mother and sister, and naturally my way of looking at the world was shaped by a female perspective,” the actor said, as quoted by Wisconsin Gazette. “I’m sure it made me very protective and caring with women, and I’ve always enjoyed their company and that kind of emotional openness. That’s also the kind of fundamental quality you need to bring to your work as an actor.”

For his directorial debut, Ryan Gosling chose a story that revolved around a single mother. The memories that he had being raised by his single mother drove him to direct the movie, which was titled Lost River.

“My mom is very beautiful and was a single mom,” Ryan Gosling said after the movie’s screening. “When you’re a kid and you have a single mom, all men feel like wolves.”

As a child, he witnessed the difficulties that women can face when they are on their own and he went on to say, “Guys would whistle at her — it was very predatory and threatening. As a kid I felt helpless, so you start to imagine all these (scenarios) where you can do something. You see the world through the filter of your imagination.”

With the talented actor often seen with his mother and sister at public appearances, he has never shied away from proudly showing his feminine side.

“I think like a girl, I think,” he shared, according to Independent. “I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I just feel like I wouldn’t know how to think any other way. My sister was my best friend and my hero growing up. Because I was home-schooled I didn’t have a lot of friends and I did ballet, which was always just girls. All of that had an effect on my brain.”

After Eva Mendes walked into his life, it was important for the star that she and his mother get along. And it was reported previously that the two important women in his life have spent time together with him.

“They all hung out and went to the movies together,” a source told People about their outing a few years ago. “Ryan and Eva seemed very happy.”

Just like Donna has been with her son for a number of big moments and glamorous Hollywood events, she’s been there for his other milestone moments, too.

In 2018, E! Online reported how both the grandmothers and Ryan Gosling’s sister were present for his daughter’s birth. “Both [Ryan and Eva’s] moms were at the hospital,” the source said, also added that both the grandmothers are “very involved.”
