When People magazine announced that Jennifer Garner was the cover girl for 2019’s Most Beautiful issue, they did more than look at her exterior beauty. They took into account her long acting career, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian work too.
“Garner is more than deserving to grace the cover of this year’s The Beautiful Issue,” the editors said, according to USA Today. Even talk show host Ellen DeGeneres told the 13 Going on 30 actress, “You are a beautiful person inside and out.”
She is a woman deserving of all the praises that come her way because of how beautifully she conducts herself in the face of struggles. A devoted mother, a strong woman, and a good friend to her ex-husband, she is constantly busy making the lives of her loved ones better. When she’s not busy working or spending time with her family, she works with the charity Save the Children, which works to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.
Once a band geek, she never thought of herself as “attractive” growing up, she said, according to Bang Showbiz. She said, “I was so not one of the pretty girls that I just bypassed insecurity and didn’t see myself as attractive at all. It was not part of my life.”
It is not that she thought of herself an unattractive, she just did not think of it at all, thanks to her parents. “I felt good about myself back then! That is the lucky trick. Looks weren’t a big deal in my family. I don’t think my parents ever said ‘You’re pretty’ and so we just didn’t think about it,” said the mother-of-three.
The Elektra star said that the most beautiful part of her life was raising her children, Violet Affleck, 14, Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, 10, Samuel Garner Affleck, 7. She plans to make most of it while they are still young enough to need her every day.
“I’m starting to get to the point where I realize this job is not going to be forever. Not in the all-encompassing every meal, every moment, every day way that I have loved for the last 13 years. It’s going to shift. But there’s beauty in how it works in episodes,” said the proud mother.
She revealed that her children prefer to see her as “mom” than the glamorous actress who walks the red carpet. “They’ll look at me and say, ‘Can you wash your face? Can you put your hair in a ponytail and put your glasses and sweats on?’ And I see the compliment in that. They just want me to look like mom.”
One thing that has kept her grounded since a very public divorce from Ben Affleck is her children, for whom she keeps the traditions alive. Affleck and Garner reunited recently to celebrate their oldest’s birthday on December 2. The family came together to buy a Christmas tree on Violet’s birthday.
“They spent time as a family, as they have done in the past,” a source tells PEOPLE. “They got a tree, decorated, went to church [and] saw a movie.”
When she makes sure that the children have both their parents, though Affleck has struggled publicly with his alcohol addiction, she prioritizes her children over herself. She has been by the Batman actor’s side faithfully even after they went separate ways. Like a good friend, she’s supported him through his struggles.
Her role in the lives of her children, Affleck’s, and the numerous children through her charity work, makes her truly a beautiful person all around.
