The birth of a baby is often welcomed by other members of the family. It is mostly considered to be a joyous occasion. However, a mother-in-law decided to turn such a happy event into a drama creating more reasons for a rivalry with the daughter-in-law.

A woman with the user name maryluck15 took to Reddit to share the response her mother-in-law had to the birth of her daughter. The woman was expecting the birth of their second child and was excited about it. They informed their extended family and even the mother-in-law who was not very involved with their first child. On the birth of their daughter, the family sent out pictures of their newborn with details of her birth to everyone including the mother-in-law.

Instead of being happy for her son and his wife, the mother-in-law decided not to see the baby just because she resembled the daughter-in-law.

“She doesn’t care for her only grandson, but was excited that we were having a daughter. I say was because my husband sent a group text to his family (including her) with her photo and birth stats,” wrote the lady on Reddit.

She further went on to say, “MIL wrote back: ‘she looks just like her’ and then radio silence. She is not interested in a granddaughter that looks like me.” The woman ended the post by thanking Felecia, possibly her mother-in-law and “the DNA.”

Reddit users were quick to comment on the incident. None of them could agree with such a mother-in-law. While one user wrote, “Wow. What an a**. But, the good news is that she just excused herself from all future invitations to parties, dinners, games, tournaments, recitals, and other events involving DD. She’s not interested, so why burden her with updates?” Another user wrote, “I swear some MIL actually act like that. They get so excited about ‘their’ baby they actually forget there’s more than one set of DNA at play.”

Others shared their personal experiences. “My grandmother did this to me (I look like my dad) I haven’t seen her since I was 8yr old, my choice. I hope she dies a terrible death,” wrote one angry Redditor.

The woman, on the other hand, went on to say that the mother-in-law had only visited their first child twice during his first year. She said she had no option but to lie to her kids about the situation. “I will probably lie to our kids at least when they are younger. She lives far away and that’s why you don’t hear from her,” wrote the woman.

When asked if she had any family to help, she told the users that her part of the family was very helpful.
