To picture herself dressed in a white gown and walk down the aisle, while the love of her life stood waiting at the end of it, was a moment that Jennifer Lawrence never thought she would have. After going through an emotional breakup and seeing the spark of other romances die away, she wondered if she would ever end up in a loving marriage. But when the right man walked into her life, the 29-year-old saw all her doubts fade away.
“I don’t know if I ever will get married and I’m OK with that,” she had told Diane Sawyer a while back, according to E! Online. But she had made peace with the idea of possibly never tying the knot. Lawrence went on to say, “I don’t feel that I need anything to complete me. I love meeting people, men, women, whatever, I love people coming into your life and bringing something.”
There was even a point of time in her life where Jennifer Lawrence couldn’t even find herself a decent person to go out with. “No one ever asks me out,” she told Vogue. “I am lonely every Saturday night. Guys are so mean to me. I know where it’s coming from, I know they’re trying to establish dominance, but it hurts my feelings. I’m just a girl who wants you to be nice to me. I am straight as an arrow. I feel like I need to meet a guy, with all due respect, who has been living in Baghdad for five years who has no idea who I am.”
Although she did want to find the one who would stand by her for the rest of her life, Lawrence continued to have her doubts. “I feel like if I find that one person who I want to spend the rest of my life with, who I want to be the father of my children, that I would absolutely not f— it up. But I’m also not banking on that.”
But in 2018, she met the gentleman who would change her life forever. According to Page Six, it was a friend who introduced her to Cooke Maroney, an art gallerist. With time, they grew close and couldn’t wait to take the next step. On the Naked with Catt Sadler podcast, she said, “I definitely wasn’t at a place where I was like, ‘I’m ready to get married.’ I just met Cooke and I wanted to marry him,” as quoted by Harper’s Bazaar.
There wasn’t a doubt in her mind that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him and she joked, “He’s my best friend, so I want to legally bind him to me forever. And fortunately the paperwork exists for such a thing. It’s the greatest. You find your favorite person on the planet and, you’re like, ‘You can’t leave!’ So I wanted to take that offer.”
Just over a year and a half into the relationship, they exchanged wedding vows and took each other as husband and wife in October 2019. “We wanted to marry each other. We wanted to commit fully…” Lawrence said.
Even people who closely know Lawrence can see how happy he makes her. A source previously told People, “They looked very comfortable… She is smiling like I have never seen her do with any of her previous boyfriends.”
After doubting whether she will ever be married to now having a loving husband by her side, Lawrence happily gushed, “I feel very honored to become a Maroney.”
The now newlywed didn’t have to think twice about saying yes when the question was popped. Lawrence told ET, “He’s just the best person I’ve ever met in my whole life. It was a very, very easy decision.”
