It had been about three months since Sarah Tanner had lost her son. Sean Tanner, a police officer with the California police department was just 21 years old when he passed away in October 2018. When the family was celebrating their first Christmas together without Sean around, the grief-stricken mother received a present that left her overwhelmed. A video of her reaction taken by her daughter was shared online, touching the hearts of thousands, reports People.

Sean’s sister, Brittany Garcia decided to do something thoughtful for her mother on Christmas eve. She gifted her a build-a-bear that had a teddy in a police officer’s uniform. What Sarah didn’t expect was to hear her late 21-year-old son’s voice. The present, both filled her with joy and deep sadness and she couldn’t hold back her tears at the moment.

My little brother died in the beginning of October, for Christmas I got my parents a build a bear in a police uniform (he was a cop) with his voice❤️💔

“My little brother died in the beginning of October, for Christmas I got my parents a build a bear in a police uniform (he was a cop) with his voice,” she captioned the video.

According to The Daily Independent, Sean was a dreamer. He aspired to become the first responder with the police department and was also an on-call firefighter for San Bernardino County Fire Department when he passed away.

“It’s one of the first things he said when he began talking. Sean didn’t get into dinosaurs, cars, drawing or sports,” read part of his obituary in The Daily Independent. “He didn’t play with Tonka trucks or animals. Literally every single toy he played with was a Rescue Hero, or some variation. Every movie was Rescue Heroes. He didn’t have a favorite Disney movie; he had no interest. He was outside exploring, running, riding or playing with his Rescue Heroes.”

With his passing, Sean not only left a void in his family but also his dream of having a future with his beloved Natasha, could never be fulfilled.

The touching moment in Brittany’s family arose numerous emotions in people across the globe via Twitter. She says it was not something she was expecting.

“I am completely overwhelmed by the reaction to the video I posted. The outpouring of love and support is something else and my family is beyond thankful. I posted a moment that happened during our first Christmas without my little brother. I never expected it to go this viral,” she later wrote on Twitter.

She also believes that this gift was something her mother needed and it has nothing to do with ripping open a healed wound. “I would just like to comment that everyone grieves differently. My family has a need to hear his voice, it’s not ripping open a wound (like people have said) because our wound hasn’t closed and probably never will. My mom LOVES her gift! To everyone who has reached out with kind,” she also added.
