A mother rejoices at the growth of her child and hopes to see them thrive until their very end. However, it is unbearable for her to see them pass away before her. Freddie Mercury’s mother, Jer Bulsara had to go through this heartbreaking situation. She saw her son be a music icon for millions of people but soon had to let go for her dear son on November 24, 1991. At the age of 45, he peacefully “died with a smile on his face,” according to Express.

When the news of her son’s death was broken to her by his close friend and musician Dave Clarke, Bulsara was heartbroken by the news. But she knew it was time. In an interview in 2012, she opened up about the day Freddie bid farewell to the world.

“It was a very sad day when he died in November 1991, but according to our religion when it is the right time you cannot change it,” told the mother. “You have to go. God loved him more and wanted him with Him and that is what I keep in my mind.” While it broke her heart, she was comforted by her son’s memories that remained in the hearts of millions of people. “No mother wants to see her son die, but, at the same time, he has done more for the world in his short life than many people could do in 100 years,” said the proud mother.

Freddie’s mother and the rest of his family saw him evolve into a superstar. They saw how much the world loved him and his everlasting music. Therefore, even after years of his death, Bulsara was constantly reminded of his son’s legacy through the love of his fans.

“His passing doesn’t seem more than 20 years ago. I still feel he is around because his music is played so often. It reassures me that he is still loved by people all over the world, but of course, none of them love him as much as his mother,” said the mother.

Remembering Freddie, Bulsara has nothing but good things to say. Though he had made it in the world and was known as a legend, he remained his mother’s “dear boy” at home. She recalled the times, he came home and sat next to his mother while she cooked. At home, Freddie was just his mother’s son and didn’t act like the musician worshipped and looked up to by millions. “He wanted to be as normal as possible. Business was on one side and his family on the other. He would come home and say ‘ Mum are you making your special cheese biscuits?’,” recalled his mother according to the Telegraph.

Bulsara had a lot of good memories of her son to live with until the day she passed away. Just days before Freddie Mercury’s 25th anniversary, she passed away in her sleep “very quietly and peacefully,” on November 20, 2016, according to HuffPost.

Brian May, Freddie Mercury’s Queen bandmate and a person who remained close to Bulsara even after Freddie’s death wrote a tribute saying, “Jer was a warm and devoted Mum to Freddie, and, like Freddie, always had a strong twinkle in the eye…” Brian May wrote. “…Freddie was very close to his Mum, and, I think, took a mischievous pleasure in trying to shock her.”

He added, “In private moments with us, away from the glare of the spotlights, in latter years, Jer was always ready with a cup of tea when we visited, and we were always able to speak about ‘My Freddie’ without shyness, feeling that he was not far away.”

Apart from May, fans of Freddie also remembered his mother. They paid tributes to her remembering her as “an amazing woman, strong, feisty, warm and generous. Much like her son.”
