Sometimes, there is no one who knows us better than our family. Their love and concern for us are so profound that they know exactly what can brighten up our day. Their thoughtful gestures can bring a smile on our faces and sometimes they can even change the world for us. One man from Batavia, New York, was lucky to have such a family. Their birthday gift for him brought tears to his eyes.
William Reed was born color blind and so lived his entire life in black and white. Colors were unknown to him though he knew it existed. His loving family came up with a special present on his birthday. “For his 66th birthday, his family decided to pitch in together to buy Enchroma glasses that have color-correcting lenses that help the colorblind see colors,” explained the family, according to Telegraph.
William was elated on his birthday morning surrounded by his family members. The excited man stood at the porch of his house posing joyfully for the video taken by his delighted family. They gave him a brown box and asked him to open it. One after another, he patiently opened the boxes to find a tiny box.
Looking puzzled, he asked them what it was as he looked into the box. “Sunglasses. Put them on,” said one family member. Looking a bit confused by the glasses, he put them on. As he put on the glasses, he looked around. His family members told him to look at the balloons and asked, “How does it look?” Not able to comprehend what had happened to his vision, he said, “it’s weird.” His dear ones told him to look around and asked him if he could see the colors around him. The reaction that followed was priceless.
Unable to hold his happiness, he burst out in tears and continued looking at the world through his news lens. He was bobbing on his feet with incomprehensible joy. Meanwhile, his dear ones encouraged him to look around at the colorful things around. He clapped his hands in joy and hugged his dear one. He said, “I haven’t seen it forever. The trees look so.. they don’t even look real. Seriously, they look 3D.”
The family then posted William’s reaction video on Facebook. The 6-minute video got millions of views and people all over the internet shared the joy of seeing him witness colors for the first time in 66 years. “Absolutely amazing. When he said the trees look 3D that really told me how different his world was before this moment. God bless him,” wrote one. Another wrote, “I started crying tears of joy.. his reaction is just amazing!! These are the kinds of things people need to see more often.”
