A mother knows her child better than anybody else. She understands their pain and their helplessness even if they try to hide it behind a smile. There is nothing that can break their hearts more than to know that her child is in agony. And it was no different for Amber Schofield. She watched her son suffer and walked with him through his journey.

According to People, Amber’s son Charlie Procter was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma in February 2016. The little boy had already gone into remission from liver cancer but was faced with the monstrous illness again. His cancer fight attracted the attention of scores of people from around the world and his family was ready to fight it with him.

His parents Amber and Ben Proctor managed to raise $611,600 to pay for life-saving treatment in the US. Thousands of people including celebrities like Pink contributed to helping Charlie. However, Charlie’s doctors informed them that his cancer had become incurable. They said he was too sick to be treated. His parents were devastated and they even decided to celebrate his birthday early.

The 5-year-old bid farewell to the world on 9 November, 2018 breaking the heart of his parents.

Just hours before his death, Amber posted a final picture of the little boy. She even told the world how her innocent child could not take the pain anymore. According to the Facebook post, he told his mother, “I don’t know what to do anymore” and, ”Mummy, I’m so sorry for this”.

Amber told users that she was heartbroken by his pain. “My heart broke! No child should feel the emotions Charlie is feeling,” wrote Amber.

The devastated mother also wrote, “This will be the last photo I post of Charlie. As the days go by he deteriorates more and more. He no longer looks like Charlie. I want everyone to remember Charlie for who he is. I want them to remember how he looked, how cheeky he was, how hilarious, how grumpy he was because right now Charlie isn’t any of those. He’s sad, he’s tired, he’s fed up and depressed. ‘I don’t know what to do anymore’ are his main words.”

Following his death, his mother took to Facebook and wrote, “Last night at 23:14 my best friend, my world, Charlie, took his final breath. He fell asleep peacefully cuddled in my arms with daddy’s arms wrapped around us. Our hearts are aching. The world has lost an incredible little boy. Charlie, you gave me chance to be a mum.”

She continued, “You have been, not only our biggest inspiration but you have been an inspiration to thousands of people all over the world. You showed me what love really means Charlie. Now it’s time to fly, I am so, so proud of you. You fought this so hard. My baby, I’m hurting so much. I will forever miss you baby bum. Sweet dreams my baby.”

Not only did his death affect his family but also everyone who knew and heard about him. According to Manchester Evening News, his school expressed their sorrow and said, “How can we put into words what our school community is feeling? Since September, Charlie’s locker has been empty and we have missed his cheeky smile and sense of humour. Love and prayers to Charlie’s family. School won’t be the same without him.”
